For us, open source means sharing knowledge and solutions
We don’t just develop software for our own needs – we also want to share solutions with the community that can help other Odoo users.
That’s why we’ve released our bank statement import modules for Odoo 19 Community as an open-source project.
The entire project is available free of charge on GitHub:
Odoo 19 Bank Statement Import on GitHub
Our goal is simple:
To provide a reliable, straightforward way to import bank statements into Odoo 19 Community – without the need for a paid extension.
Why create our own project?
Odoo offers extensive features for accounting and processing bank transactions. When importing bank statements, however, the formats your bank provides are a key consideration.
In practice, common formats include:
- CAMT.053
- CAMT.054
- OFX
- SWIFT MT940
Support for these formats varies between Odoo versions.
When moving to Odoo 19 in particular, we noticed gaps that could have a significant impact on existing installations.
Rather than solving these problems solely for our own installation, we therefore decided to make the solution publicly available free of charge.
Odoo 19 Community – Importing bank statements
Our repository builds on the relevant OCA components for Odoo 19, adding features needed for practical use.
The project includes the core infrastructure for bank statements and file imports, as well as parsers for various bank formats.
This allows the following formats to be processed, for example:
| Format | Support |
|---|---|
| CAMT.053 | Yes |
| CAMT.054 | Yes |
| OFX | Yes |
| OFX with ACCTID mapping | Yes |
| SWIFT MT940 | Yes |
The project therefore covers a large proportion of traditional bank statement formats.
OFX support for Odoo 19
One notable feature of our project is OFX support.
OFX was available in earlier Odoo/OCA versions but was removed from the OCA 19.0 branch. Our project brings this functionality back to Odoo 19 alongside the other import modules.
This is particularly useful for businesses whose banks still offer OFX files for electronic bank statements.
We did not want to simply develop a completely new, standalone solution.
Instead, we reused the existing open-source codebase and brought the components together for Odoo 19.
Also supported: SWIFT MT940
Another feature of our project is support for importing SWIFT MT940 files.
MT940 is an established format for electronic bank statements and is still used, particularly by banks and in older banking integrations.
According to our project documentation, no equivalent OCA solution is available for current Odoo versions.
We therefore developed our own module for this:
account_statement_import_mt940
This allows MT940 files to be processed directly in Odoo 19 as well.
Modular by design
We deliberately chose not to create a monolithic extension.
The features are split into separate Odoo modules:
- account_statement_base
- account_statement_import_base
- account_statement_import_file
- account_statement_import_camt
- account_statement_import_camt54
- account_statement_import_ofx
- account_statement_import_ofx_by_acctid
- account_statement_import_mt940
This allows users to install just the components they actually need.
This also reflects the open-source ethos: a solution should not become unnecessarily complicated just because different users have different requirements.
Free for the Odoo Community
Perhaps most importantly:
The software is available free of charge.
We make the extensions we have developed available to the Odoo Community.
There are no licence fees for using our extensions.
The source code is publicly available on GitHub, where it can be viewed, used, modified and developed further.
The project is licensed under the AGPL-3 licence, in line with the OCA code on which it is based.
Why are we doing this?
Open source only works in the long term if people give something back rather than just taking.
The Odoo Community Association (OCA) embraces this very idea, making numerous extensions for Odoo available as open source. There is also an extensive collection of community modules for importing bank statements.
We want to do our part.
We benefit from open-source projects ourselves.
So we give something back too.
An open-source contribution does not always have to be a huge framework or an entirely new ERP system.
Sometimes a small extension that solves a specific problem is enough.
If that solution then saves ten, a hundred or a thousand other Odoo users time and effort, developing it has already been worthwhile.
For Odoo Community – not just our own installation
One of our key priorities during development was to avoid tailoring the modules specifically to our own environment.
We want the repository to be useful for other Odoo 19 Community installations too.
That is why the modules are hosted together in a public repository and can be used independently of our own Odoo installation.
Of course, depending on the export format, a bank may have different peculiarities. We would therefore also welcome feedback, bug reports and improvements from the community.
Open source thrives on participation
The project is very much intended to evolve, rather than remain a finished product.
Anyone who finds a bug, has another use case or would like to contribute an improvement can get involved directly in the project.
That is one of the great advantages of open source:
A solution can evolve beyond the work of its original developer.
A user can become a developer.
A developer can contribute an improvement.
And that improvement is then available to everyone else.
Installation and source code
The full source code, module structure and installation instructions are available on GitHub:
GitHub – Odoo 19 Bank Statement Import
Importing OFX and MT940 files also requires the relevant Python libraries. The specific dependencies are documented in the repository.
Our contribution to the Odoo Community
With this project, we would like to make a simple point:
Software does not always have to be sold for its development to have value.
Sometimes the greatest benefit comes from making a solution freely available so that as many people as possible can use it and develop it further.
We develop the software in the first place because we need a solution ourselves.
If that results in a useful extension for other Odoo users, we are happy to share it with the community.
That is exactly why we have released the Odoo 19 Bank Statement Import Module.
Free. Open source. For the Odoo community.

We welcome feedback, issue reports, suggestions for improvements and, of course, contributions from the community.
Open source works best when we work on it together.
